We tell you who should skip it, too.
Play it if you…
Good fit- Space-shooter fans who want runs built around a three-ship squadron
- Players who enjoy managing ship loadouts and trying different upgrades
- Score chasers who prefer a solo mode without repairs or upgrades
Skip it if you…
Saves you a refund- Players seeking a fixed, authored level sequence may find the mostly randomly generated stages less suited to that preference.
- Players looking for a short, self-contained campaign may not find one here; the game is structured around endless runs.
- Players who prefer slower-paced play may find the waves of enemies and boss fights demanding.
Our take on Tri-Star
The squadron system adds ship choice and repair management to each run, but it also means the central loop depends on juggling a three-ship team rather than focusing on one craft. Score Attack trades away repairs and upgrades for a more stripped-down scoring run.
What is Tri-Star?
Tri-Star is an endless horizontal-scrolling space shooter with roguelike and roguelite elements.
Choose three ships from a roster of 12, each with primary and special weapons, and manage their loadouts during a run. Scrap from defeated enemies can improve six stats and buy more than 60 upgrades. Damaged ships can be left at base for repairs while the remaining squadron continues. Levels are mostly randomly generated, and defeating bosses and earning high scores unlocks ships, enhancements, and game modes for later runs. Score Attack offers a solo run without repairs or upgrades, while Ace Mode pits the squadron against fiercer enemies.
