We tell you who should skip it, too.
Play it if you…
Good fit- Roguelike fans who want card battles built around spatial puzzles
- Deck-building players who prefer runs with route and combat choices
- Puzzle game players who enjoy linking cards to create combinations
Skip it if you…
Saves you a refund- Players seeking conventional power-based card combat may hit a wall when every battle requires solving a board puzzle.
- Players who want a resource system based on action points or mana may bounce off the unrestricted hand-play system.
- Players looking for a fixed campaign structure may find the roguelike dungeon descent too run-focused.
- Players who do not enjoy managing deck upgrades through an in-run shop may lose interest between encounters.
Our take on Staff Only
The bounce point arrives when a hand contains playable cards but no valid connections. Players expecting to spend action points or mana each turn instead face a spatial arrangement problem, making the board state—not a conventional resource bar—the gate to every move.
What is Staff Only?
Staff Only combines card battles, deck building, roguelike progression, and spatial puzzles.
Each encounter takes place on a shared board where the player and enemies operate in the same space. Cards collected during a dungeon run can be linked together to create combinations and defeat opponents. Battles do not use action points or mana; every card in hand can be played when its connection conditions are met. Dungeon routes support two approaches: defeating as many enemies as possible or pursuing a faster completion. New cards can be purchased from a shop that remains available throughout the run, allowing the deck to be upgraded between encounters.
How Staff Only plays
- 01Shared battle board
- The player and enemies use the same play area during each encounter.
- 02Connection-based cards
- Cards become playable when they can be linked with other cards in hand.
- 03Dungeon route choices
- Runs can focus on defeating many enemies or reaching a quick clear.
- 04Persistent card shop
- New cards can be bought during the descent to change and upgrade the deck.
