Our take on Sophstar
The arcade format keeps the focus on compact, fast-moving combat, but limits movement to 8 directions even when using analogue sticks. That fixed movement scheme gives up free directional control in favor of a defined arcade-style range.
What is Sophstar?
Sophstar is a vertical arcade shoot-'em-up in which Sub-Lieutenant Soph is sent on a reconnaissance mission that changes what she knows about herself.
Its six modes include Arcade and Story, with 8 stages each, and Cadet School, with 60 stages. Players choose from 9 ships, each with a different main weapon, secondary weapon, and teleport ability. Combat combines boss encounters with a score system that ties risk to rewards.
Six difficulty levels, different endings based on player skill, and more than 20 bosses and mid-bosses add further challenges. Focus Movement allows precise ship movement, while controls support digital D-pads and analogue sticks with 8-way movement. The game also offers vertical screen mode, score attack, timed challenge, endless mode, and ultimate challenge.
