Skip it if you…
Saves you a refund- Players seeking a relaxed or low-pressure adventure may hit a wall when combat demands precise parries and acrobatic movement.
- Those wanting a tightly linear campaign may bounce off the vessel’s exploration, progressive traversal, and multiple endings.
- Players looking for a puzzle-climbing game or a multiplayer shooter will find its single-player Metroidvania structure mismatched.
Our take on Somber Echoes
The bounce point arrives when traversal and combat become one system: players must combine aerial dashes, directional movement, and precise parries while facing hostile creatures. Anyone expecting exploration to remain separate from demanding fights may hit that wall early.
What is Somber Echoes?
Somber Echoes follows Adrestia, a revived tribune trying to stop her twin sister Harmonia from tearing apart the universe.
Exploration takes place across the Atromitos, a Greco-Roman space vessel transformed by catastrophe into a habitat for extradimensional horrors. Adrestia gains powers, knowledge, skills, and upgrades while searching for answers and confronting enemies. Aether Lanterns let her change form, defy gravity, dash through the air, and direct energy in different ways. Combat centers on acrobatic movement and perfect parries. The game includes distinct districts with separate visual identities, progressive traversal, and multiple endings shaped by play. Its story draws on Greek tragedy and mythology within a science-fiction setting.
