Our take on Skyward Collapse
The creator role can sound like broad command, but the central constraint is that neither faction is directly controlled. Much of play involves arranging circumstances and reacting to events rather than issuing conventional orders.
What is Skyward Collapse?
Skyward Collapse is a turn-based strategy game in which the player acts as a creator rather than directly commanding either faction.
The goal is to keep Greek- and Norse-inspired sides alive and at war while developing the floating continent of Luminith. Gods, creatures, artifacts, villages, bandits, and disruptive events shape each game. Sixteen gods provide passive traits and three active powers each, while twelve buildings can be unlocked through profile progression. The landscape develops over time, and player actions influence minions by changing the conditions around them. Games include multiple difficulty levels, with outcomes and challenges varying between sessions. Cooperative multiplayer supports up to 8 players.
How Skyward Collapse plays
- 01Indirect faction balance
- The player influences both sides without directly commanding either one, aiming to prevent either faction from being destroyed.
- 02Mythological powers
- Sixteen gods offer individual passive effects and three usable abilities apiece.
- 03Dynamic Luminith
- Towns, conflicts, bandit strongholds, and disruptive events emerge as the floating continent develops.
- 04Profile progression
- Winning games advances the player profile and opens access to twelve buildings.
- 05Cooperative multiplayer
- A session can include up to 8 players.
Skyward Collapse compared to similar games
Skyward Collapse focuses on maintaining conflict between factions through indirect powers, while Xenonauts centers on directing persistent soldiers against an alien invasion. Old World follows rulers across generations with empire management, family relationships, and succession, rather than Skyward Collapse's floating continent and mythological factions.
