RPGIs Silk worth it for you?
We tell you who should skip it, too.
Play it if you…
Good fit- RPG players drawn to tile-based exploration who want a journey across historic Silk Road settings
- Players who prefer choosing between travel, rebellion, raiding, and trade rather than a single campaign role
- Party-building fans who want to select seven Advisors from a large roster
Skip it if you…
Saves you a refund- Players seeking a real-time or action-led combat format rather than square-based, keyboard-controlled RPG play
- Players who prefer a tightly focused campaign may find the distinct challenges and broad exploration scope diffuse
- Players looking for a modern presentation may not want a game built around tile-based RPG conventions
Our take on Silk
Silk departs from the usual single-campaign RPG structure by dividing play among four roles with different aims, including trade and raiding as well as exploration and rebellion. Its square-based, keyboard-controlled format also returns to tile-based RPG conventions rather than adopting a newer presentation.
What is Silk?
Silk is a tile-based exploration RPG set along the Ancient Silk Road in 200 AD, spanning terrain from Roman Damascus to Three Kingdoms China.
It offers four challenges: travel across wilderness, oppose the Parthian Empire, raid rival kingdoms, or build a trading empire. Players can battle, trade, or explore while assembling a caravan or a renegade army. The party can include any seven of thousands of Advisors; hiring them opens choices in the game world. Its square-based, keyboard-controlled format draws on older tile-based RPGs, while its challenges range from exploration and rebellion to raiding and trade.
How Silk plays

- 03Multiple play approaches
- Battle, trade, and exploration can be pursued alongside caravan-building or army-building.
