Our take on SGS Taipings
The bounce point arrives when battlefield decisions become sustained administration: income from cities and farmland, troop training, weapons purchases, leadership, corruption, and diplomacy all compete for attention. Players wanting only tactical engagements may stop at this management layer.
What is SGS Taipings?
SGS Taipings is a historical strategy game about the Taïping Rebellion in China from 1851 to 1864.
One player commands the Taïping rebels and allies, while the other leads the Qing Empire. Scenarios range from 8 turns to more than 164 turns, with each turn representing one month. Players manage land and naval units, diplomacy with foreign powers, cities, provinces, income, training, weapons, leaders, and supplies. The map includes varied terrain, rivers, coastal waters, and hundreds of cities. Winter, floods, rain, and drought change map features. More than 200 events and cards create military, political, economic, and diplomatic situations. The Taïping side seeks to establish a state; the Qing side must contain the revolt before it threatens the dynasty.
