Our take on Sephonie
Players who want platforming without puzzle breaks may bounce off when creature research switches to the tile grid, where colored pieces must form large same-color areas. The optional postgame challenges also extend play beyond the main story for those seeking only the central adventure.
What is Sephonie?
Sephonie is a story-driven 3D platforming adventure about three biologists stranded on an uninhabited island.
Explore its caverns, subterranean oceans, and surreal cityscapes while navigating ledges and cliffs with jumps, wallruns, and other acrobatic moves. Linking with creatures lets the scientists research them and gain abilities for reaching new areas. Creature research uses a tile puzzle: place colored pieces to form large areas of a single color. The story follows Amy, Riyou, and Ing-wen as they face physical challenges, memories, and questions of loyalty and human connection. The main adventure lasts 6–8+ hours, with a postgame Bubble Adventure and hidden items for players seeking additional challenges.
How Sephonie plays

- Linking with certain island creatures grants abilities that open routes into harder-to-reach areas.
- 02Tile-based research
- Creature encounters use a puzzle grid where colored tiles are arranged into large same-color groups.
- 03Postgame challenges
- Bubble Adventure and hidden items provide additional challenges after the main story.
