Our take on #SelfieTennis
The focus on self-play and sandbox experimentation gives up the structure of a conventional tennis match. Ball People, temporary upgrades, and unusual tools share the court with rallies, leaving less room for a rules-focused competitive format.
What is #SelfieTennis?
#SelfieTennis is a virtual-reality sandbox game centered on playing tennis against oneself.
Hitting the ball across the net teleports the player to the other side for the next return and awards points. Ball People move around the court and can be pushed beyond its edge; taking their hearts opens time-limited upgrades. Selectable tools include a lightsaber, violins, selfies, a bow and arrows, a stick horse, and hearts. The game includes a physics-based tennis system, controller-hand switching, play-space rotation, Kids mode, and GIF recording through the selfie stick. An HTC Racket tracker supports two-handed play with dual rackets. Keyboard options include high-ball serves, music control, and experimental ball visibility.
How #SelfieTennis plays
- 01Self-opponent Rallies
- Crossing the net moves the player to the opposite side, allowing one person to return both sides of a rally.
- 02Ball People
- Court characters can be knocked outside the court, after which their hearts provide access to temporary upgrades.
- 03Sandbox Equipment
- The selectable equipment includes lightsabers, violins, selfies, archery gear, a stick horse, and hearts.
- 04Dual Racket Support
- The HTC Racket tracker enables two-handed play with a racket in each hand.
- 05GIF Sharing
- The controller-mounted selfie stick records GIFs and supports posting them through Twitter.
