Our take on Scottside
Rather than remaining a purely passive visual novel, Scottside inserts timed escapes, computer interactions, and stealth sections. Its episodic mysteries provide separate conclusions while building toward a larger secret, and its choices lead to consequences rather than simple right-or-wrong judgments.
What is Scottside?
Scottside is a nonlinear thriller visual novel set in a snow-covered provincial town during an alternate 1980s where robots are part of everyday life.
After moving to town, the protagonist discovers a strange object in the forest and becomes involved in its hidden secrets. The story is divided into five episodes, each with its own mystery and conclusion while contributing to a larger plot. Choices have consequences rather than fixed right or wrong outcomes, and characters may become friends, enemies, or romantic interests. Gameplay includes quick-time sequences, computer hacking, and stealth situations. The cast originated from characters created during a tabletop role-playing game. Cyberpunk elements and a retrowave soundtrack shape the setting.
