RPGIs Schism worth it for you?
We tell you who should skip it, too.
Play it if you…
Good fit- Action roguelike players who enjoy experimenting with layered character builds
- Bullet-hell fans who want frequency-based dodging alongside shooting
- Players seeking repeated runs with randomization, difficult bosses, and an endless mode
Skip it if you…
Saves you a refund- Players who want a forgiving action game may hit a wall at the difficult bosses and intense projectile patterns
- Players who prefer straightforward loadouts may bounce off the many stats, relic combinations, weapon mods, and deity choices
- Players seeking a story-led RPG with dialogue and exploration may find the run-based shooting structure too focused on combat
Our take on Schism
The bounce point arrives when combat demands frequency matching while several build systems compete for attention. Players who can manage stat investment, relic combinations, weapon modifications, and deity choices may continue; those seeking simpler action may stop at the first demanding bullet patterns.
What is Schism?
Schism is a top-down action roguelike RPG set in a future buried under garbage, where a prisoner searches for the missing Schismatic Engine after a ship crash.
Runs combine shooting, difficult boss fights, chaotic randomization, and build planning. Characters develop through 8 main stats and numerous secondary statistics, while 230+ relics, 60+ weapons, weapon-wide modifications, and 26 gods create varied combinations. Combat includes colored bullets that can be avoided by switching frequencies, with new rooms beginning paused to reduce unavoidable damage. After defeating the final boss, an endless mode provides continued progression and survival challenges.
How Schism plays
- 01Build customization
- Eight primary attributes, many secondary statistics, 230+ relics, and weapon modifications support varied character setups.
- 02Weapon variety
- The arsenal contains more than 60 weapons, ranging from conventional firearms to unusual options.
- 03Deity boons
- Players can seek favor from 26 gods to receive distinct benefits.
- 04Frequency combat
- Matching a projectile's frequency allows it to be avoided during bullet-heavy encounters.
- 05Endless mode
- A post-boss mode extends runs beyond the main progression and tracks how far they can continue.
