Our take on Scars of Mars
Battery power drains throughout every run, including during movement, combat, and investigation, making resource depletion the defining pressure behind each route decision.
What is Scars of Mars?
Set in 2158, Scars of Mars casts the player as commander of a humanoid unit sent to rescue survivors from a Mars research facility and bring them back to Earth.
Combat takes place in real time on a 3x3 grid, with control shifting among four humanoids as attacks, dodges, healing, protection, and positioning are managed. Each unit can be shaped through class, frame, and equipment choices, supporting roles such as sniper, fighter, berserker, or healer. Runs follow branching routes through the facility. Battery power steadily declines during movement, combat, and investigation, forcing decisions about whether to pursue deeper areas and the boss or retreat to collect additional items and equipment.
How Scars of Mars plays
- 01Grid-Based Combat
- Four humanoids act within a 3x3 battlefield where timing and placement affect attacks, evasions, healing, and protection.
- 02Squad Specialization
- Class, frame, and equipment combinations support distinct roles, including long-range snipers, fast fighters, berserkers, and healers.
- 03Branching Facility Runs
- Each expedition presents multiple route choices through the Mars research facility.
- 04Battery Management
- Power decreases during travel, battles, and investigations, shaping decisions about advancing toward the boss or withdrawing for supplies.
