Our take on Mainframe Defenders
The defining structure is a four-robot squad whose gear choices include both useful abilities and drawbacks, making equipment combinations the central tactical decision.
What is Mainframe Defenders?
Mainframe Defenders is a turn-based tactical strategy game set in the infected Stargazer research complex.
Command a squad of four prototype robots as they repel attacks, destroy unit fabricators, retrieve data, clear corrupted nodes, and advance toward the mainframe. Gear changes more than unit statistics: items provide distinct abilities, restrictions, and drawbacks that can be combined into different squad builds. Combat supports overheating, corrosion, damage absorption, return fire, direct firepower, and debuffs, while enemy roles can counter repeated tactics. Missions use rooms created by hand alongside procedural generation, with varied objectives and special conditions. Wins and losses contribute to progression through additional units, upgrades, load-outs, and items.
How Mainframe Defenders plays
- 01Four-Unit Squad
- Missions are played with a team of four prototype robots defending the research complex.
- 02Gear-Based Builds
- Items grant distinct abilities as well as limitations, allowing drawbacks to become part of squad setups.
- 03Countering Enemies
- Enemy units have different battlefield roles and can respond to tactics used too often.
- 04Mixed Level Generation
- Randomized missions combine manually created rooms with procedural layouts, objectives, and conditions.
- 05Persistent Unlocks
- Progression adds units, upgrades, load-outs, and equipment after victories or defeats.
Mainframe Defenders compared to similar games
