Skip it if you…
Saves you a refund- Players seeking a short, fixed route may not enjoy progressing through 26 generated levels.
- Those looking for a broad range of character roles may find the single Rogue identity restrictive.
- Players seeking cooperative gameplay may prefer a game built around multiple participants.
Our take on Rogue
Rogue gives up a fixed, predictable route in favor of changing room layouts and repeated dungeon expeditions. That choice makes the structure less scripted, while the single Rogue identity keeps the experience focused on one dungeon-crawling role rather than varied character roles.
What is Rogue?
Rogue is a dungeon-crawling game set in the Dungeons of Doom.
Each journey uses randomly generated rooms filled with monsters, traps, hidden doors, and loot. Players gather armor, weapons, food, spells, potions, and other items while descending through 26 levels that become more dangerous over time. The objective is to find the legendary Amulet of Yendor and escape with it. This commercial version is Epyx Rogue, an early release made for commercial distribution and ported to MS-DOS on the IBM PC. It is version 1. 49 of that port. The game is recognized as an early influence on the genre now associated with Rogue-like games.
