- Players who prefer short, fixed levels may not enjoy runs built around ongoing permanent upgrades
Our take on Rock Bottom
The permanent-upgrade structure gives the game persistent progression, but it also commits each run to a repeated mining, smelting, and upgrade cycle rather than a broad set of activities.
What is Rock Bottom?
Rock Bottom is an incremental mining game built around repeated pickaxe swings, resource collection, and deeper exploration.
Players enter procedurally generated caves containing ores and concealed treasures, then process collected ore into bars using a smelter. Resources can be spent on a large skill tree of permanent improvements, so upgrades remain across runs. The game includes eight distinct underground layers, including the Sunken Canopy and Spore-light Canopy, with each area introducing different challenges and rewards. Progress follows a repeatable cycle of mining, smelting, upgrading, and returning to the caves with greater strength.
How Rock Bottom plays
- 01Procedural Caves
- Each descent uses generated cave layouts containing ore deposits and hidden treasures.
- 02Ore Smelting
- Collected raw materials can be processed into bars at the smelter.
- 03Permanent Skill Tree
- Resources fund upgrades that remain available between runs.
- 04Eight Underground Layers
- Progression moves through eight areas with changing challenges and rewards.
