Our take on Return the Backrooms
The maze is deliberately confusing: its corridors can make players feel they know where they are going while they circle back through the layout.
What is Return the Backrooms?
This cooperative horror game supports 1–4 players exploring winding corridors filled with creatures.
Players search rooms and mazes for objects that open new areas and allow escape, while carrying capacity limits how many items they can bring. Some rooms contain small puzzles; lockers offer places to hide, and some also contain objects. Difficulty changes aspects of play. Both completed and failed attempts award experience, with certain levels opening additional difficulty settings.
Players can mark the floor with chalk arrows in different colors to help navigate and use chat to communicate. A flashlight illuminates dark spaces, while a medkit can treat an injured player or teammate. The piece of soul is a key item that draws both its owner and other entities.
