- Players looking specifically for multiplayer shooting may prefer a game built around multiplayer combat
- Players seeking a climbing game or a runner-focused shooter may prefer alternatives built around those structures
Our take on Relentless Frontier
The store pitch gives equal weight to mobility, strategy, exploration, and environmental interaction, but its concrete structure remains a combat-focused FPS with revisitable areas and weapon upgrades.
What is Relentless Frontier?
Relentless Frontier is a science-fiction first-person shooter set on the terraforming colony Ross 128-b.
Noah Gansky, a combat engineer, uses the Omniaxe and an Omnistruct system to reproduce weapons and abilities while fighting alien bugs, energy cultists, and super-soldiers. Movement includes jumping, sliding, and dashing, with environmental positioning used during combat. Weapons and abilities affect the surroundings: an electric dart can reactivate power, a charge shot can clear alien material, and a dash attack can destroy walls. Fuel taken from enemies maintains the arsenal. Exploration includes secrets and areas that can be revisited after gaining new tools, revealing optional challenges and routes. The game uses frame-by-frame hand-drawn sprites for characters, enemies, weapons, and environmental animation.
How Relentless Frontier plays
- 01Mobility-Based Combat
- Jumping, sliding, and dashing combine with environmental positioning during encounters.
- 02Replicated Arsenal
- The Omnistruct produces additional weapons and abilities for traversal and combat.
- 03Environmental Interactions
- Specific attacks can restore power, clear alien growths, or destroy walls.
- 04Returning Area Exploration
- New tools open previously inaccessible challenges and secrets in conquered locations.
- 05Enemy-Harvested Fuel
- The Omniaxe collects fuel from defeated enemies to maintain the arsenal.
- 06Hand-Drawn Animation
- Sprites use frame-by-frame artwork for expressive movement across the game.
Relentless Frontier compared to similar games
Relentless Frontier combines first-person shooting with mobility, weapon replication, environmental interactions, and revisiting areas for newly accessible challenges. Abyssus also centers on shooting, but its description specifies multiplayer combat, hand-crafted levels, and roguelite progression rather than this exploration and upgrade structure.
