Carter, a Human villager, becomes involved in a conspiracy involving The Helix, a powerful artifact, and the creation of the Perfect Homunculus. Gameplay combines combat with exploration and puzzle-solving. In Act 1, Carter travels through the Human province of Kaliere, including its rebuilt capital, while learning about Humanity's history and completing side quests. He fights artificial machines, malformed creations of long-deceased wizards, and other enemies. Players can create a Homunculus companion to accompany Carter. Quests and puzzles provide rewards that unlock Carter's potential as a warrior.
