Our take on Death end re;Quest
The defining structure is its split between Shina’s RPG journey inside World’s Odyssey and Arata’s visual-novel scenes in the real world.
What is Death end re;Quest?
Death end re;Quest alternates between a turn-based RPG in a virtual world and visual-novel scenes in the real world.
Programmer Arata receives an email from his missing colleague Shina, then discovers she is trapped inside World’s Odyssey, the game they developed together. To escape, Shina must complete the game and reach its perfect ending. Players investigate the game’s mysteries in real-world segments and fight glitched monsters in the virtual setting.
Battles use turn-based commands, with free movement and the option to shift the battle genre, including to a first-person shooter or fighting game. Dungeon exploration also uses character-specific skills to reach concealed areas and treasures. Choices can affect the ending, while the story follows events across both sides of the screen.
