Our take on Beanrise
Players looking for constant action may bounce off when progress shifts toward VHS-led investigation and puzzle solving. The two-timeline structure may also slow the experience for anyone who prefers a direct, single-period narrative.
What is Beanrise?
Beanrise is a first-person action and puzzle game set in the isolated town of Byllis.
Nina discovers VHS tapes left by her late father, Justin, and watching them takes the player into the past. The game alternates between Nina’s present and Justin’s experiences before the current lockdown. In the earlier timeline, Byllis is recovering from a previous lockdown, while Justin encounters events and mysteries linked to the town’s hidden history. As Nina continues viewing the tapes, the two timelines reveal why the current lockdown began and how Justin’s story connects to Byllis’s secrets. Progress centers on exploring these linked periods, solving puzzles, and uncovering the truth behind the town’s past.
