Our take on Rainbow Sea
Instead of presenting a single linear route, the story uses ship exploration and changing conditions to reveal events. Time, weather, affection, and daily routines influence what happens during the human's year among the gods.
What is Rainbow Sea?
Rainbow Sea is a pixel-art visual novel about a human spending one year with the Seven Lucky Gods aboard a treasure ship.
Players explore the vessel, speak with its inhabitants, and examine objects to trigger events. Affection, weather, and the time of day influence which events occur, while choices made during them alter the story. The clock runs from 6:00 AM until midnight, with real-life seconds advancing the in-game time. Insufficient food or sleep can cause the character to fall asleep earlier.
On New Year's Day, the story ends according to the events witnessed and decisions made. A playthrough takes roughly two hours. The narrative follows the human's possible future among the gods, including whether the character becomes a god or returns to the original world.
How Rainbow Sea plays
- 01Time-Based Events
- Events can depend on affection, weather, and the time of day.
- 02Daily Routine
- Real-life seconds advance the in-game clock, while eating and sleeping affect the character's waking time.
- 03Choice-Driven Story
- Events contain decisions that can change the storyline and determine the conclusion.
