Our take on Rails Across America
Railroad strategy here centers on network expansion and influence over rivals, rather than military campaigns or empire leadership across generations. Its real-time format and rail-focused decisions give the genre a transport-management emphasis.
What is Rails Across America?
Rails Across America is a real-time strategy game with simulation elements, set in North America from 1830 to the near future.
Players decide where to extend their rail networks, where to compete, and when to seek support from government officials, union leaders, and other influential figures. A cargo-routing system supports hundreds of routes and thousands of engines, while the game includes 60 types of engines and cars. Players can use influence to affect rivals through actions such as triggering a financial panic, starting an investigation, or instigating a strike. The game features AI based on 12 real-world rail barons and multiplayer for up to 8 players over LAN. A map editor lets players create new worlds.
