Our take on Mashinky
Players who want the full historical progression may hit a wall at the era system: the Early Access release includes 5 of 7 eras, with the remaining eras described as future additions. The network-building loop also asks for sustained attention to routes, terrain and economic rules.
What is Mashinky?
Mashinky is a train transport strategy game about building a company on a procedurally generated map.
Players lay tracks across difficult terrain, research and buy vehicles, manage routes, and transport passengers and cargo while working within economic rules. Construction takes place on a grid in an isometric view, where track layouts, junctions and signals shape the network. Stations, industries and depots can be upgraded, and trains can gain new engines and wagons with bonuses such as added capacity or new cargo types. Players can also switch to views that follow a train or show the network in a 3D landscape. The game includes 5 of 7 planned eras in its Early Access release; the vendor says more eras are planned.
How Mashinky plays

- 03Vehicle and site upgrades
- Engines, wagons, stations, depots and industries can be upgraded, with bonuses that include capacity and cargo options.
- 04Train viewing modes
- Players can follow a train or view the railway network in the 3D landscape outside construction mode.
- 05Community mods
- Steam Workshop support provides downloadable mods for customizing the game.
