Our take on Ascension to the Throne: Valkyrie
The defining format is the combination of real-time movement through the world with turn-based battles that can scale to 20 squads.
What is Ascension to the Throne: Valkyrie?
This fantasy role-playing game centers on Alexander, the deposed ruler of Airath, who is taken to remote Oganthar after a conspiracy.
As he travels back, he encounters allies, adversaries, and Samael’s armies, while Eneya, a warrior woman, emerges as the principal hero. Exploration takes place in real time, followed by tactical combat conducted in turns. Each battle supports as many as 20 squads, with no more than 10 units assigned to each squad. The game includes over 30 troop varieties and roughly 20 magical abilities divided among four schools. Its narrative combines Alexander’s homeward journey with Eneya’s growing importance in the conflict.
