- Players who want a low-pressure shooting mode without lives.
Skip it if you…
Saves you a refund- Players who expect to fire without affecting movement may hit a wall when each shot pushes the craft backward.
- Those seeking a gentle opening challenge may bounce off the hostile enemy mix and the game's stated difficulty.
- Players seeking a story-led adventure rather than combat-focused shooting.
- Players looking for multiplayer modes beyond local co-op and local duels.
Our take on R-COIL
The likely bounce point is the shared fire-and-thrust control: every shot nudges the craft backward, linking aiming with movement from the outset. Players expecting to shoot while keeping the craft still may struggle to find a rhythm. Stress Free Mode removes lives and pressure, but the control system remains.
What is R-COIL?
R-COIL is a multidirectional shooter controlled with a stick and one button for firing and thrusting.
Tapping fires; holding applies thrust. Each shot pushes the craft backward, so firing and thrusting must be balanced to maintain control. Enemies include shielded saucers, bullet-firing spinners, laser towers, and kamikaze buzz-saws. Modes include single player, local co-op, and local duel. Stress Free Mode removes lives and pressure. The story begins when an experimental engine malfunctions and sends its pilot through a hole in reality, into an attack by hostile creatures. The stated goal is to find a way home.
