Our take on Promethium
Rather than relying only on shooting through enemy formations, Promethium makes disabling shield generators the route to destroying armada ships. The side-scrolling shooter structure is therefore built around flying over targets to hack them while enemy fighters guard the ships.
What is Promethium?
Promethium is a retro-inspired side-scrolling shoot-'em-up set across numerous levels that become progressively harder.
The player pilots an experimental fighter against an armada heading for Earth. Each armada ship is protected by shield generators. Flying over a generator allows it to be hacked and disabled; once every generator is disabled, a self-destruct code causes the ship to explode. Enemy fighters guard the armada ships. Destroyed enemies can drop power pods, which function as currency for buying power-ups. The available power-up changes as pods are collected, and choices can be single-use, multiple-use, or timed. The game supports a joypad or keyboard, with controls for movement, firing, and purchasing the current power-up.
How Promethium plays
- 01Shield generator hacking
- Disable every generator on an armada ship to trigger its self-destruct sequence.
- 02Power-up purchases
- Power pods dropped by destroyed enemies act as currency, with each pickup making another purchase available.
- 03Multiple power-up types
- Options can work once, be used multiple times, or remain active for a limited period.
- 04Controller and keyboard
- Movement and firing can be handled with a joypad or keyboard controls.
