Skip it if you…
Saves you a refund- Players seeking real-time combat, rapid input, or constant action may find the turn-based pacing too measured
- Players looking for a broad campaign structure rather than repeated tile-based encounters may find the scope narrow
- Players who want a game centered on hand-eye coordination or controller skill may find the command-based design limited
Our take on Quarterstaff
Rather than treating action as a test of speed, Quarterstaff makes prediction and revision its central structure. Move previews expose likely outcomes, while the one-turn undo replaces the usual penalty for a poor decision with a chance to reconsider.
What is Quarterstaff?
Quarterstaff is a turn-based action strategy game about defending a besieged fantasy realm.
Players control the wizard Kalresh across tile-based encounters, selecting attacks, spells, and acrobatic moves against groups of opponents. Strategic Foresight previews the result of possible actions before commands are confirmed, while an undo function can reverse one turn after a mistake. Battles can be played at any pace, with no requirement for rapid input or controller use. Victories can be reviewed through instant replays that present the encounter as a video recap. The structure supports both longer play sessions and shorter bursts, with planning taking priority over fast reactions.
