SimulationIs PolyPine worth it for you?
We tell you who should skip it, too.
Play it if you…
Good fit- Players who enjoy building ecosystems rather than managing a human settlement
- Casual simulation fans interested in arranging habitats for wildlife
- Players who prefer shaping terrain and observing environmental interactions over action-focused play
Skip it if you…
Saves you a refund- Players looking for a fast-paced game, since the central activity is growing and arranging a forest
- Players seeking a broad campaign or varied mission structure; the described focus is on creating an ecosystem
- Players who want to manage people, buildings, or a business rather than plants and wildlife
Our take on PolyPine
The ecosystem focus gives up the broader management systems found in settlement or business games. Its main loop is planting, adjusting habitats, and observing animal behavior and environmental disruptions, so players seeking a wider range of management tasks may find its scope narrow.
What is PolyPine?
Plant seeds and watch trees progress from seedlings to saplings, mature trees, dead trees, and fallen trunks, with each stage offering habitat for different species.
Add animals after meeting their habitat needs, such as providing trees for squirrels or flowers for butterflies. Clicking animals triggers behaviors that affect the ecosystem: moose fertilize soil, voles damage roots, and foxes hunt other animals. Build forests across hills, lakes, mountains, fjords, and wetlands, or alter the terrain. Fires, storms, and bark beetle swarms also change the forest.
How PolyPine plays
- 01Tree life stages
- Trees pass through five stages, and each one provides a different habitat.
- 02Animal interactions
- Selecting animals triggers behaviors such as soil fertilization, root damage, and hunting.
- 03Terrain shaping
- Forests can be built on several terrain types, with terrain alteration available for further control.
- 04Natural disruptions
- Fires, storms, and bark beetle swarms affect the forest.
