Our take on Physics Cake
The open-ended sandbox trades structured progression for experimentation. Its appeal depends on creating situations and observing interactions, so players seeking missions, character development, or a directed campaign may find the format limited.
What is Physics Cake?
Physics Cake is a 2-D sandbox where players draw containers, objects, and other shapes, then place physical elements inside them.
Materials such as water, oil, steam, fire, wood, ice, jello, sand, gases, metals, lava, and nanites interact in different ways. The simulation includes spawners, portals, pulleys, fans, deletion tools, and other objects, with some hidden items available through combinations. Gravity can be changed during a simulation. Creations can be saved as text files and shared, while Steam Cloud backs up saves when the game closes. Built-in help explains objects and basic functions. The game supports Steam Input on Steam Deck.
How Physics Cake plays
- 01Material interactions
- Liquids, gases, solids, heat, electricity, growth, radioactivity, and other elements react according to their assigned behaviors.
- 02Custom drawing
- The sandbox allows hand-drawn containers, lines, and other shapes for arranging simulations.
- 03Adjustable gravity
- Gravity can be changed while a simulation is running.
- 04Save and share
- Simulations can be saved and exchanged as text files, with Steam Cloud backing up saves after exit.
- 05Object help
- In-game help panels explain the available objects and basic controls.
- 06Hidden combinations
- Additional objects can be obtained by combining elements.
