Our take on Sandboxels
The open-ended canvas provides room for experimentation, but gives up structured progression and goal-driven challenges. Its appeal depends on creating and observing interactions rather than following a campaign, managing a persistent operation, or advancing a character.
What is Sandboxels?
Sandboxels is a falling-sand simulation built around interactions among more than 500 elements.
The game models heat, electricity, density, chemical reactions, cooking, and spreading fire across materials such as plants, animals, fluids, and powders. Players select an element category, choose a material, and place pixels on a canvas by clicking, dragging, or using a touchscreen. Materials then interact within the simulation. Experiments can involve chemistry, food preparation, fire, or growing an ecosystem. The Steam version includes Workshop support for browsing and publishing saved canvases, unlimited save-file management, a larger screen area, Discord Rich Presence, and no advertisements.
