We tell you who should skip it, too.
Play it if you…
Good fit- VR users with Oculus headsets who want to create particle scenes
- Creative sandbox players who prefer experimenting with physics tools over structured objectives
- Users interested in recording tool movements and building looping visual scenes
Skip it if you…
Saves you a refund- Players seeking a campaign, missions, or a defined story structure
- Users wanting combat, character progression, or objectives across repeated sessions
- VR users with headsets other than supported Oculus devices
Our take on Particulate
The store placement can suggest broad Steam VR compatibility, but the current headset support is limited to Oculus devices using the native Oculus SDK. The main experience is an open-ended particle sandbox rather than a conventional game with campaigns, missions, or progression.
What is Particulate?
A virtual-reality particle physics environment for creating and viewing scenes.
It can simulate millions of particles, which users shape with ten kinds of tools, including emitters, attractors, repellers, orbiters, collision spheres, distortion fields, colorizers, draggers, and stirrers. Tools may be left in place or moved along paths that are recorded and repeated. Scenes can also be saved as static particle sculptures without emitters. Freestyle Mode supplies particles that regenerate automatically for immediate interaction, and an optional guided tutorial introduces the app. Featured scenes are available to watch, while audio reactivity links particle behavior to music playing in another app. Current headset compatibility is limited to Oculus VR devices using the native Oculus SDK.
How Particulate plays
- 01Ten particle tools
- The toolkit includes emitters, attractors, repellers, orbiters, collision spheres, distortion fields, colorizers, draggers, and stirrers.
- 02Recorded tool motion
- Placed tools can have their movements captured and repeated in a loop.
- 03Static sculptures
- Scenes can be saved as particle arrangements without any emitters.
- 04Audio reactivity
- Scenes can respond to music played through another application.
- 05Freestyle Mode
- Automatically renewing particles provide a quick interaction mode for demonstrations and short sessions.
