Our take on Paranoia: Happiness is Mandatory
Cloning keeps progression tied to character death, giving the game a built-in return mechanism at the cost of making individual losses less final. The four-character structure also commits the experience to team control rather than a lone protagonist.
What is Paranoia: Happiness is Mandatory?
Lead a team of four RED-clearance Troubleshooters in Alpha Complex, humanity’s last refuge under the control of Friend Computer, a paranoid artificial intelligence.
Citizens face summary execution for questioning the computer, accessing information beyond their clearance, refusing a required drink, or committing other alleged acts of treason. The team must find trouble, identify suspected traitors, report them, or eliminate them. Combat takes place in real time with an active-pause system inspired by classic computer role-playing games. Character development includes nine available skills and a cloning mechanic that allows progression to continue after a character dies. Enemies include malfunctioning robots, aggressive drink dispensers, and defective clones.
