Our take on The Mound: Omen of Cthulhu
The store pitch emphasizes madness and cooperative horror, but the practical loop is more specific: prepare equipment, choose an area, gather treasure, and recover logbooks. That expedition structure may matter as much as the Lovecraftian atmosphere.
What is The Mound: Omen of Cthulhu?
Form a group of up to four explorers and enter a cursed jungle in search of treasure.
Monstrous creatures and a madness system distort perception, affecting what characters see and hear. Before each expedition, the group prepares aboard a galleon, accepts a contract, obtains gear, divides weapons and equipment, and selects the next jungle area. On the mainland, players gather riches, coordinate through spatialized voice chat, and face unpredictable threats. Abandoned forts contain logbooks that unlock additional starting points for later expeditions. The group can venture deeper into the jungle while searching for the Mound, which is rumored to contain extraordinary treasure.
