We tell you who should skip it, too.
Play it if you…
Good fit- Cooperative horror groups who want shared investigation and puzzle solving
- Solo players who accept that death ends the run without revival
- Puzzle-focused players who want adjustable danger, including a non-lethal mode
Skip it if you…
Saves you a refund- Players seeking action-heavy combat rather than exploration, puzzles, and evasion
- Players wanting forgiving solo runs, since solo deaths cannot be reversed through revival
- Groups larger than four players
Our take on Otherplane
The cooperative framing may make solo play seem equivalent to group play, but solo runs remove the revival mechanic entirely. The listing presents several modes, while higher difficulties add escalating entity speed, aggression, and sanity pressure rather than changing the puzzle content.
What is Otherplane?
Otherplane is a cooperative paranormal investigation game for solo play or groups of up to four.
Players explore maps, solve puzzles, collect objects connected to entities’ former lives, and send those objects beyond the world to release the spirits. Hostile entities grow more dangerous as investigations progress, while darkness drains sanity and affects how often they appear. Players can use environmental elements for defense, revive fallen teammates by returning their souls to their bodies, and retain completed puzzles after death, though related memories are hidden elsewhere on the map. Modes range from Puzzles Only and Safe to Easy, Medium, and Hard. Solo deaths cannot be followed by revival.
How Otherplane plays
- 01Four Difficulty Modes
- Puzzles Only, Easy, Medium, and Hard offer different levels of danger during investigations.
- 02Safe Mode
- The entity travels through the map but cannot harm players, leaving puzzle solving as the focus.
- 03Cooperative Revivals
- Teammates can recover a fallen player by finding and returning their separated soul.
- 04Persistent Puzzle Progress
- Completed puzzles remain recorded after death, while related memories are hidden elsewhere on the map.
- 05Proximity Voice Chat
- Players communicate through voice chat that depends on their in-game distance.
