Our take on NUTS
The central task is methodical: camera placement takes trial and error, followed by reviewing recordings and reporting evidence. The mystery builds around that repeated research routine, so the story’s strange developments do not replace the surveillance work at its core.
What is NUTS?
NUTS is a single-player walking simulator in which a rookie field researcher investigates squirrels in Melmoth Forest.
During the day, explore the area and place cameras; at night, review captured footage in a control center. Camera placement is worked out through trial and error, while mission briefings provide a starting point. Record squirrel routes and nesting locations, then send evidence to Dr Nina Scholz at the research institute. The assignment begins as a study of local wildlife, but events grow stranger as the days pass. The game combines surveillance and tracking with a story presented with full voice acting, alongside forest visuals and foley sound effects.
How NUTS plays
- 01Camera surveillance
- Placement is chosen during daytime exploration, and recorded footage is reviewed after night falls.
- 02Mission reporting
- Evidence from the recordings is sent to the research institute as the investigation progresses.
- 03Voice-acted story
- The squirrel research assignment develops into a mystery involving the forest and the researcher’s work.
