Our take on Nightshade
Rather than treating a superhero game as a straightforward fight through enemies, Nightshade combines patrols, clue gathering, hidden equipment, and popularity management with a point-and-click adventure structure. Its secret-identity setup also makes ordinary daytime life part of the hero's premise.
What is Nightshade?
Nightshade is an 8-bit action-adventure set in Metro City, where the villain Sutekh has spread crime across the city.
By day, the protagonist is an ordinary citizen; at night, the character becomes a masked crimefighter. Gameplay follows a point-and-click adventure structure with a distinct variation: patrols cover one hundred locations, including underground hideouts and criminal headquarters. Encounters with thieves and muggers can provide clues, while hazards include spike walls, jackal pits, a printing press, and a freeze ray. Progress requires finding weapons such as energy domes, force gloves, and the Staff of Ra, then solving problems to outwit five crime kings and reach Sutekh's lair. Popularity functions as a resource for deciphering clues, defeating villains, and rescuing bystanders.
