Is Netherworld Covenant worth it for you?
We tell you who should skip it, too.
Play it if you…
Good fit- Action RPG players who want timing-focused combat and roguelike runs
- Dark fantasy fans who prefer procedural labyrinths over fixed-level exploration
- Players seeking class variety, spectral companions, and multiple difficulty modes
Skip it if you…
Saves you a refund- Players seeking a relaxed or low-pressure action game may find the precision combat and stated hardcore focus demanding
- Players wanting a single fixed campaign may not prefer procedurally generated labyrinths and roguelike builds
- Players looking primarily for stealth, crafting, or tower-defense systems may find the combat and dungeon progression too narrowly focused
Our take on Netherworld Covenant
The presentation gives substantial space to the completed 1.0 additions and dramatic story framing, while the playable structure remains centered on repeated procedural labyrinth runs, combat decisions, and build variation. The fragmented dialogue and completed chapters provide narrative context, but the core experience is still run-based action.
What is Netherworld Covenant?
Netherworld Covenant is a 3D isometric action roguelike set between the mortal realm and the netherworld.
As a survivor, the player uses the Nether Lantern to form pacts with deceased allies and explore procedurally generated labyrinths. Combat centers on parrying, dodging, positioning, resource allocation, and Ethereal Dash, with counterattacks against corrupted heroes and demonic lords. Four Soul Companions—Swordsman, Ranger, Guardian, and Rogue—provide different combat options, including phasing, ambushes, and dimensional evasion.
A borderland camp serves as a place to gather allies, forge weapons, store resources, and uncover the story through fragmented dialogue. The 1. 0 version adds five classes, four weapons, Boss Rush, Chaos Mode, two difficulty modes, Chapters 5 and 6, expanded Aura and Relic systems, random events, accessories, secondary weapons, and four skins.
How Netherworld Covenant plays
- 01Precision Combat
- Encounters use parries, dodges, positioning, resource management, and counterattacks rather than relying on rapid combo chains.
- 02Soul Companions
- Four spectral allies provide distinct abilities for phasing through obstacles, ambushing enemies, or avoiding lethal attacks.
- 03Procedural Labyrinths
- Exploration takes place in generated labyrinths populated by corrupted heroes and demonic lords.
- 04Five Playable Classes
- The available classes include Berserker, Mage, Hunter, Shield Guard, and Useless Person.
- 05Additional Game Modes
- Boss Rush and Chaos Mode offer alternatives to the main roguelike progression.
- 06Expanded Progression Systems
- The 1.0 release restructures the Aura and Relic systems and adds accessories, secondary weapons, random events, and four character skins.
Netherworld Covenant compared to similar games
Netherworld Covenant centers on 3D isometric precision combat, procedural labyrinths, class selection, and spectral companions. Vagante also uses a dark fantasy adventure setting, but its description emphasizes adventuring through dangerous lands in pursuit of fame, riches, and power rather than Soul Companion abilities and precision-focused encounters.
