RPGIs Monster Hunter Stories worth it for you?
We tell you who should skip it, too.
Play it if you…
Good fit- Monster Hunter fans who want to raise creatures instead of hunting them
- RPG players who prefer turn-based battles over action combat
- Players who want monster collection alongside a story-driven adventure
Skip it if you…
Saves you a refund- Players seeking real-time Monster Hunter combat may bounce off the turn-based attack-selection system.
- Players wanting a short, focused campaign may find the story, monster raising, and expanded endgame structure too involved.
- Players uninterested in collecting, hatching, and customizing monsters may find the progression repetitive.
Our take on Monster Hunter Stories
The bounce point arrives when battles shift from direct action to reading attack patterns and selecting Power, Speed, or Technical moves. Players who do not want to manage a growing Monstie party may hit a second wall at egg hatching and the Rite of Channeling.
What is Monster Hunter Stories?
Monster Hunter Stories follows a Rider who raises monsters rather than hunting them.
The adventure begins in a village and expands into the world of Hunters, where Riders and Hunters must work together against the Black Blight. Battles use Power, Speed, and Technical attacks to counter opponents, while a Kinship Gauge enables skills and special attacks. Players find eggs, hatch them, and develop monsters into Monsties with distinct abilities. The Rite of Channeling awakens additional powers for customized teams. The game includes online battles, Japanese and English voice acting, more than 200 pieces of concept art, music tracks, added monsters, expanded endgame content, and extra character-editing parts.
