Our take on Mines of Mars
Procedural generation gives the underground world variation between playthroughs, but sacrifices the fixed layouts and predictable routes found in a fully authored environment. Players who value memorizing exact paths may find the changing world less consistent.
What is Mines of Mars?
Mines of Mars is a procedural mining and adventure game set in a large underground world on Mars.
Each playthrough creates a somewhat different environment containing dark corridors, enemies, flora, fauna, and ambient creatures. The game combines gravity mining with exploration, combat, weapons, items, and large boss encounters. A day-and-night system changes the setting during play. The story follows the mystery of why evidence of Martian life was never found and includes dark secrets. Three mini-games are also part of the game. An original ambient soundtrack by Evan Gipson accompanies the underground exploration. The game draws inspiration from Metroid and Motherload while presenting a story-based adventure across its procedurally created world.
