Our take on Memory Brew: Tales of Underworld
Rather than using the underworld as a purely threatening setting, the game turns it into a working service business. Its central activity is preparing memory-altering soups for customers, replacing conventional adventure combat or investigation with hospitality, bureaucracy, and supernatural requests.
What is Memory Brew: Tales of Underworld?
Run a teahouse as Xiao Mengniang, a newly appointed Meng Po, in a modernized Chinese underworld.
As a visual novel with management elements, the game centers on preparing custom soups for visitors whose requests involve forgetting unusual things, such as smoking habits, film spoilers, or overheard conspiracies. More than 20 supernatural customers visit the shop, including figures based on Chinese ghost and deity traditions. Their stories gradually connect to the protagonist’s lost memories and the disappearance of the former Meng Po. The setting combines Chinese underworld punk aesthetics with contemporary institutions and invented services. Its world includes the traditional 18 levels of hell plus 20 additional seasonal levels, for a total of 38.
