Our take on Light of Altair
The store presentation gives substantial space to the story, faction perspectives, and visual scale, while orbital combat receives only a brief functional description. Players looking for detailed information about combat systems may find that emphasis does not explain how those encounters play out.
What is Light of Altair?
Light of Altair is a science-fiction colony-building and strategy game set across a solar system.
Colonies begin with a landing unit and can grow into cities on planets and asteroids. Players manage industries and colonists, research a technology tree containing more than 30 weapons, buildings, and ship modifications, and design fleets by assigning equipment to ship hardpoints. Eight factions pursue separate agendas, with diplomacy and orbital combat forming part of the campaign. The single-player story follows a future history of Earth and includes events viewed from different faction perspectives. A 3D engine provides views ranging from the galaxy to individual moons and asteroids, including colony structures, mines, and launch facilities.

Light of Altair compared to similar games
Xenonauts centers on a multinational defense force, turn-based squad operations, persistent soldiers, and alien technology recovery, while Light of Altair combines colony growth, faction diplomacy, orbital combat, and ship construction. Ashes of the Singularity: Escalation focuses on managing vast armies and a galactic empire, whereas Light of Altair focuses on industries, colonists, technology research, and settlements on planets and asteroids. Old World follows historical empires across generations with marriage, heirs, and legacy management; Light of Altair instead uses a science-fiction campaign with eight faction viewpoints and custom fleet designs.
