Our take on Lake
The bounce point arrives when the mail route and small-town routine settle into the main loop. Players expecting rapid pacing or frequent changes in activity may find the two-week schedule too quiet once conversations and after-work choices become the main progression.
What is Lake?
Set in 1986, Lake follows Meredith Weiss as she leaves her software-company career in the city to cover her father's mail route in Providence Oaks, Oregon.
Across a two-week stay, the game combines driving a mail truck, conversations with residents, and choices about relationships and free time. The truck can be driven manually or set to autopilot. After work, Meredith may spend time with friends, assist neighbors, or remain at home with a book. The story branches according to decisions about whom to meet, befriend, or pursue romantically. At the end of the visit, Meredith decides whether to return to her demanding city job or remain in her hometown.
How Lake plays
- 01Branching Story
- Choices during Meredith's two-week visit lead to different possible outcomes without designated correct answers.
- 02Mail Route Driving
- Players can operate Meredith's father's truck around the lake or allow its autopilot to handle the trip.
- 03Social Choices
- Conversations can develop into friendships or romantic relationships with people in Providence Oaks.
- 04After-Work Activities
- Free-time options include meeting friends, assisting neighbors, and reading at home.
