Our take on RE:CALL
Its focus on memory-driven storytelling trades broad gameplay variety for a tightly connected puzzle structure. Actions in flashbacks serve the narrative progression, leaving less room for unrelated systems such as combat, crafting, or open-ended exploration.
What is RE:CALL?
RE:CALL is a narrative adventure built around memories that can be changed to affect the present.
Players control a character through flashbacks, alter actions within those recollections, and use the resulting changes to progress. Memory-based puzzles support investigations involving a factory escape, a crime, and a mysterious power. The story follows a cast of more than 10 characters, each with distinct traits, while the central mystery asks who is responsible for the character’s abilities. Progression combines puzzle solving, story scenes, and decisions made within past events that produce immediate consequences in the present.
How RE:CALL plays
- 01Memory-Based Puzzles
- Changing events in flashbacks produces consequences that affect present-day progression.
- 02Narrative Investigations
- The story includes a factory escape, a crime to solve, and an investigation into the character’s mysterious power.
- 03Large Character Cast

RE:CALL compared to similar games
RE:CALL centers on changing memories to alter present events and solve a narrative mystery, while Jusant focuses on climbing a tall tower, managing stamina, choosing routes, and uncovering an older civilization’s secrets. The two share action-puzzle and adventure elements, but RE:CALL is structured around flashback consequences and character-driven investigation rather than climbing traversal.
