Our take on Koya Rift
Rather than keeping difficulty on a fixed scale, the game continuously adjusts many systems between runs based on performance. Its generated enemies, weapons, and caves also replace predictable layouts and loadouts common to more structured shooter-platformers.
What is Koya Rift?
Koya Rift is a roguelike 2D shooter-platformer set on a hostile planet.
Each run begins at the surface, where the player enters a procedurally generated network of caves and tunnels. The objective is to destroy every Phantom Crystal, which produces the planet’s alien soldiers, while enemy forces pursue the player. Enemies vary in attributes such as size, speed, health, damage, color, and weapon behavior. Weapons are also generated differently, requiring adaptation during each run.
Progress provides upgrades and access to purchasable units. Difficulty changes between runs based on performance: victories increase it and losses reduce it. These adjustments can affect enemies, weapons, allies, level size, rewards, recovery, and crystal growth. The game is not in active development and was last updated in 2012.
