Our take on Joy Climb
Rather than moving through multiple stages or exploring branching areas, the game centers on one large ascent. Progress is repeatedly interrupted by falls, making setback and recovery the main rhythm of its climbing format.
What is Joy Climb?
Joy Climb is an action climbing game built around upward movement and frequent falls.
Chamy, a hard-shelled chameleon, uses his long tongue to catch distant ledges, stretch it, and climb. His companion Chuck-Chuck can swing from side to side with his weight. Chamy’s shell armor protects both characters from damage during falls. The game contains one large level with a difficult ascent and an easier descent, creating repeated movement between progress and setbacks. The central challenge is reaching the top while managing the risk of falling to the bottom.
How Joy Climb plays
- 01Tongue-based climbing
- Chamy reaches ledges with his long tongue, then stretches it to gain height.
- 02Swinging companion
- Chuck-Chuck moves from side to side through the effect of his mass.
- 03Fall protection
- Chamy’s shell armor shields both characters from damage when they fall.
- 04Single large level
- The climb takes place in one huge level with a difficult upward route.
Joy Climb compared to similar games
Jusant is also a climbing-focused action game, but it combines the ascent with exploration, route choices, climbing tools, stamina management, and a story about a past civilization. Joy Climb instead uses one large level, tongue-based movement, a swinging companion, and repeated falls as its central structure.
