Is Isle of Swaps worth it for you?
We tell you who should skip it, too.
Play it if you…
Good fit- Deckbuilder fans who want card acquisition through post-battle trades rather than a three-card pick
- Roguelite players who enjoy runs through changing area orders
- Collectors who want to carry cards into a persistent binder and build decks for a championship
Skip it if you…
Saves you a refund- Players seeking a fixed campaign route may find the shifting selection of 3 areas from 6 less suited to a set sequence.
- Players who prefer drafting cards from a small offered selection may dislike building decks through trades with defeated characters.
- Players looking for direct action combat may not enjoy its card-and-energy combat system.
Our take on Isle of Swaps
Trading gives card acquisition a social, opponent-by-opponent shape, but it also ties deck growth to characters defeated in battle. Players who prefer choosing from a fixed set of draft options may find that exchange-based structure restrictive.
What is Isle of Swaps?
Isle of Swaps is a roguelite deckbuilder about collecting Critter cards and battling schoolmates.
In combat, Skill cards build energy for stronger cards, while each Critter’s stats, abilities, Weaknesses and Resistances affect team choices. Skill cards are element-specific, and Stickers grant passive bonuses, with rarer Critters limiting how many can be equipped. After winning, swap for cards with defeated characters and add collected cards to a binder; the battle deck can be changed at any time.
Challenges offer a choice of 1 of 3 map cards, and unflipped cards can award money for Booster Packs. Runs use 3 of 6 areas in varying orders. Victories add battle-deck cards to a permanent Master Binder, which can be used to prepare decks for the Critter Championship.
How Isle of Swaps plays
- 01Post-battle trading
- Cards from defeated characters can be traded for, including duplicate cards.
- 02Binder deck changes
- Collected cards can be used to revise the battle deck at any time.
- 03Variable challenge routes
- Each run combines 3 of 6 areas, and the areas can appear in any order.
- 04Persistent card collection
- Challenge victories add cards from the battle deck to the Master Binder for later deck building.
- 05Element-based combat
- Skill cards require a Critter of the matching element, while energy-building cards enable stronger plays.
