Clues appear in letters, diaries, artwork, keepsakes, and other household items. Examining these objects reveals story details, while collected items open routes into new areas. A persistent supernatural enemy patrols the residence and pursues the player during exploration. Hiding provides one way to evade it, while light sources such as camera flashes can briefly stun the entity. The house changes as the investigation goes deeper, shifting from a familiar domestic setting into a distorted environment. New Game Plus adds extra scares, content, increased difficulty, and remixed puzzles for another playthrough.
