RPGIs I Had a Plan! worth it for you?
We tell you who should skip it, too.
Play it if you…
Good fit- Players who want to direct a party rather than control a wizard in direct combat
- Roguelite fans who enjoy building runs around recruits, equipment, Charms, and route choices
- Strategy players who accept partial control over teammates during battles
Skip it if you…
Saves you a refund- Players who want every command followed immediately will hit the frustration system when teammates refuse orders
- Players seeking direct character control may disengage because battles can proceed through teammate actions instead
- Players looking for a single fixed campaign may not want a run-based structure with metaprogression
Our take on I Had a Plan!
The bounce point arrives when a teammate refuses an order and the frustration meter rises. Players expecting precise command execution may find the resulting loss of control difficult, especially once the meter fills and the wizard's Fireball response takes over.
What is I Had a Plan!?
Play as a wizard who directs a team through dungeons and enchanted forests in a tactical roguelite semi-autobattler.
The wizard does not fight directly; instead, commands are issued to teammates, who may obey and gain a small bonus or refuse, increasing the frustration meter. When frustration reaches its limit, the wizard casts Fireball. Battles can also run with less direction while the team acts independently. Runs include recruiting characters, equipping weapons, using magical Charms, selecting routes through different Realms, and completing discoveries and Realm Quests. Metaprogression provides progression between runs.
How I Had a Plan! plays
- 01Unreliable Commands
- Teammates may ignore orders, while obedience grants a small bonus and refusal raises the frustration meter.
- 02Frustration Fireball
- Filling the frustration meter triggers the wizard's Fireball response.
- 03Team Recruitment
- New characters can join the group during play.
- 04Run Customization
- Weapons, magical Charms, route choices, discoveries, and Realm Quests shape each run.
- 05Between-Run Progression
- Metaprogression adds progression that continues across runs.
