Our take on Headlander
Players who need a clearly specified combat or progression system may bounce off at the host-switching premise, because the available description does not explain how those systems develop beyond controlling robotic bodies.
What is Headlander?
Headlander is a side-scrolling action-adventure set in a retro-futuristic world where humanity’s minds have been transferred into robotic bodies ruled by a computer.
The player takes the role of the last known human, now reduced to a disembodied head, and searches for clues about a fractured past. A special helmet allows the head to dock with robotic hosts and control them. Moving between bodies is central to traveling through the hostile machine world. As the journey continues, the apparent situation becomes less certain, while the fate of humanity remains unresolved.
How Headlander plays
- 01Robotic host control
- A special helmet lets the disembodied head enter and operate different machine bodies.
- 02Side-scrolling adventure
- The player travels through a hostile world of machines controlled by a computer.
- 03Retro sci-fi setting
- The game presents an automated society whose utopian premise has gone wrong.
