Our take on Amygdala
Its procedural permadeath structure trades persistent progress for repeated discovery. Each death returns the run to the beginning, while the changing worlds provide variation instead of a fixed route through the adventure.
What is Amygdala?
Amygdala is an action/adventure platformer about an ordinary man whose body was taken by a wizard.
Playing as his disembodied head, players explore surreal worlds, battle enemies, avoid environmental traps, and use mobility abilities and psychic attacks. Each world is generated anew when advancing or dying, creating a permadeath run with no checkpoints or saves. Losing all energy or falling ends the attempt and returns the player to the beginning. The game includes six world types, 22 enemy types, six wizard forms, and 12 environmental hazard types. An optional vengeance path continually raises the challenge and records names on a high-score board.
How Amygdala plays
- 01Generated World Runs
- New worlds appear after progression or death, with six world types included.
- 02Permadeath Structure
- A fatal hit without energy or a fall ends the run and sends the player back to the start.
- 03Enemy Variety
- The game includes 22 types of hostile creatures and six forms for the wizard.
- 04Environmental Hazards
- Twelve hazard types create additional ways for a run to end.
- 05Eternal Vengeance
- This optional path increases the challenge until defeat and places player names on a high-score board.
